It's the small things
A small happy moment in a normal day in the life of a father

My kids got a huge haul from their trick-on-treating on Halloween.
My son was dressed as Zenitsu from Demon Slayer and my daughter had a home-made costume as an axolotl from Minecraft that I crafted. Took me a few hours to find the right patterns, print them out, cut them, and attach them to a box that's just the right size for her head. She loved it and it was well worth the effort!
After they came home, they happily dumped their prizes and carefully sorted through them. They ate some and made some trades.
In a mock evil voice, I yelled "Ooooh! Look at all that, I want some! Now, who should I steal candy from!" as I ran up to their table making grabby motions with my hands.
Both kids laughed and excitedly yelled back "Me! Me! Steal from me, daddy!"
That was not quite what I expected.
I tested them and pointed at a few of the highly prized full size chocolate bars. (I remember back in my days, we would get so excited when someone hands out full size bars!) To my surprise they were more than happy to let me have them.
So I asked them, "You are such great kids! Why are you okay giving me your best candy?"
Ella responded, "Because you do so much more for us, daddy".
Aris said, "Because without you taking us, we wouldn't be able to trick-or-treat".
And that made me very happy. It's the little things like this that shows what wonderful kids I have.
